Reminder: Build a Better BC Rally in Vancouver Saturday, April 10 at Noon

CUPE members are being urged to participate in major rally planned by the Coalition to Build a Better BC to send a strong message to the BC Liberal government that British Columbia can’t afford any more cuts to public services.  The rally is scheduled for noon on Saturday, April 10 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

The BC Liberal government has recently made a series of drastic funding cuts to public services in BC.  These are just the latest in a long series of cuts and downgrades over the nine years this government has been in office.  CUPE BC has long fought for improvements to public services while maintaining responsibility and accountability to taxpayers. After all, CUPE members are all taxpayers too!

A wide range of community, labour and cultural organizations have come together to form the Coalition to Build a Better BC to put pressure on the government to stop and reverse the cuts.  The coalition is organizing actions to mobilize British Columbians in order to build community and public services so that every individual in BC can fully participate in society.

In early February, CUPE BC endorsed the aims of the coalition and is actively participating in the activities being planned.  There are now more than thirty organizations that have signed on and are working with the coalition.  Organizations from the arts and culture, community, environmental, labour, senior, and youth sectors are all represented.  The first activities are taking place in Vancouver, with the goal of building a province-wide movement.  More information can be found on the events page on the CUPE BC website (CUPE members are being urged to participate in major rally planned by the Coalition to Build a Better BC to send a strong message to the BC Liberal government that British Columbia can’t afford any more cuts to public services.  The rally is scheduled for noon on Saturday, April 10 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

The rally on April 10 will include members of all of the organizations involved in the coalition and anyone else who wants to work together to “Build a Better BC.”  As CUPE members, we provide public, community and cultural services to British Columbians, and we understand as well as anyone in the province how the cuts to those services impact the most vulnerable people in our communities.  Please come out on April 10th and demonstrate your support for all British Columbians.
