UPDATED: Vancouver Art Gallery vote to ratify settlement agreement

Feb 5, 2019
As you may have heard CUPE 15 have issued strike notice to the Vancouver Art Gallery that will allow a job action to take place as early as Monday. They have been without a contract since 2017 and they are fighting to prevent rollbacks on fundamental rights like sick leave and long-standing scheduling rules.
They need our support! If you have any free time please consider going down and strengthening their job action by joining the picket. They are handing out information on why they are on strike and trying to convince people not to visit the Gallery and respect the line.
Job actions are only effective if they get support and the best way to do that is to spread the word and avoid visiting the Gallery until they agree to negotiate a fair contract with their workers.

We are joining VDLCs call for support through encouraging as many people as possible to send letters urging the Art Gallery management to withdraw their demanded cuts and negotiate a fair contract with their workers.

In the meantime, CUPE 15 is asking supporters, especially those who are VAG members, to write to the employer to drop its concessionary demands on sick pay and overtime, and negotiate a fair collective agreement with the union. Please send an email to Director Kathleen Bartels at kbartels@vanartgallery.bc.ca. For those not wishing to email, letters can be sent to Director Bartels at Vancouver Art Gallery, 750 Hornby Street, Vancouver, BC, V6Z 2H7.
