Safely Commuting During Covid-19

Commuting can compound stress around returning to work, and though it is outside the purview of Joint OH&S Committee and Employer responsibilities, we recognized it’s a key piece in creating an overall psychologically healthy workplace. We hope tips we’ve compiled below help.

  • ‘Test drive’ your commute if you’ve not been driving or taking transit
  • Add extra travel time
  • Talk to your manager about adjusting your schedule to allow for commuting at off-peak times
  • Travel quieter routes where possible
  • Board transit once others have disembarked
  • Keep 2m away from people
  • If 2m distancing isn’t possible, try to avoid physical contact and face away from others
  • Consider wearing a face covering
  • Wash or sanitize your hands after your commute
  • Stay home if you’re sick
  • Go gently on yourself and others
  • Let go of previous commute expectations
