Strike Vote: Questions from the Public to Members

Thank you to everyone who was able to come out to the strike vote meeting on Sunday. We truly appreciate your strong support and your clear mandate to negotiate a fair agreement as we go into mediation.

As news of our 97% strike vote spreads, the public will be asking for information about CUPE 391 going on strike.

We value public support during this difficult time and it is important that we do what we can to help patrons understand our issues and show that we appreciate their interest and ongoing active support.

As these questions usually arise when we are at work, at this time we ask that you please graciously thank patrons for their interest and inform he or she that CUPE 391 hopes to negotiate a fair contract while in mediation and that we have no current plans for any job action.

You can also reassure patrons that no future job action will be taken unless we are forced to do so by the GVRD and the Employer.

We are completely committed to doing everything we can to ensure that every effort has been made to reach a fair settlement before any kind of job action will be contemplated.

If patrons would like more information about our negotiations, please refer them to our website at cupe391.ca or ask them to call the union office at 604-322-4879 for assistance.

If you are contacted by the media at any time, the Bargaining Committee asks that you please refer reporters to the CUPE 391 office and/or to our official bargaining spokespeople Ed Dickson and Alex Youngberg.

Once again, thank you for your support!

If you have any questions about bargaining, please email bargaining@vpl.ca.

In Solidarity,
the Bargaining Committee
