Safely Commuting During Covid-19
Commuting can compound stress around returning to work, and though it is outside the purview of Joint OH&S Committee and Employer responsibilities, we recognized it’s a key piece in creating an overall psychologically healthy workplace. We hope tips we’ve compiled below help.
- ‘Test drive’ your commute if you’ve not been driving or taking transit
- Add extra travel time
- Talk to your manager about adjusting your schedule to allow for commuting at off-peak times
- Travel quieter routes where possible
- Board transit once others have disembarked
- Keep 2m away from people
- If 2m distancing isn’t possible, try to avoid physical contact and face away from others
- Consider wearing a face covering
- Wash or sanitize your hands after your commute
- Stay home if you’re sick
- Go gently on yourself and others
- Let go of previous commute expectations
