The Vancouver Province reports this morning (”City, union talk again in informal meetings“, The Province, September 7, 2007, p.8 ) that the City of Vancouver and its workers are refusing once again to discuss the strike in the media. The article speculates that significant discussions maybe underway and that both parties are operating under a media blackout, usually a sign of formal negotiations. It must be stressed that our Bargaining Committee is unaware of any media blackout at the present time. In addition, while not explicitly naming a specific bargaining unit, the article appears to focus on issues of concern to CUPE 15. There is no mention of any of CUPE 391’s bargaining proposals.
Catch a peek at the front page of today’s Vancouver Sun. Under the banner “Civic strike at day 50,” the paper features a montage of photos from the various picket lines, including a number of images of CUPE 391 members. See if you can identify your fellow workers!
