Dear CUPE Local 391 Members
Despite the Employers intention to open the library tomorrow, if there is a single picketer at any Library Square entrance means the building is behind a picketer is struck and CUPE 391 members are expected to honour the picket line
The Union will be speaking to Library Management about the email which instructs members to bypass the picket line and use other entrances.
As you are probably aware, members of the BCGEU are planning to on strike and set up picket lines at locations throughout the province on September 5th.
You can click on the link (http://www.bcgeu.ca/BC_gov_strike_sep5#.UD5Ybe0mr4A.email) for the full story. Their picket lines are part of their efforts to obtain fair wages and working conditions for their membership.
1. We expect all CUPE Local 391 members to show up for work on September 5, 2012.
2. If you should encounter a picket line, we expect you to honour the picket line.
Shared Staff Entrance (Georgia and Homer Streets – staff entrance, Floors 8 & 9 of Central Library)
If there are picket signs at the shared staff entrance CUPE BC and the BC Federation of Labour say that we must consider our building struck. It’s important that we support our fellow workers in their struggle for fair compensation.
The other possibility:
1. If there are no picket signs at the entrances but information pickets are present and a rally is occurring, you may enter the library and go to work.
2. There may be a rally in support of job action and union members are encouraged to participate.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your steward or union officers. I will be at Central Library at the Staff entrance on the morning of September 5 to observe and support. Other members of the Executive will be available at all entrances,
In Solidarity,
Alex
