BCGEU Haiku Contest! and Update

CUPE 391 is sponsoring a Haiku contest.  The subject is BCGEU job action.  Please send us your entries via e-mail to info@cupe391.ca.  Prizes: Two $50 certificates to Bon Ton pastries!

Current state of Job Action at VPL
BCGEU members are picketing the inside entrance of the shared staff entrance off the Homer and Georgia Street entrance.  Their members are also picketing the provincial elevator on level P1.  BCGEU is walking with their pickets part way along Georgia and Homer.

If job action escalates, and BCGEU members decide to picket all around Library Square, CUPE 391 will have to reconsider our position.  At the moment, BCGEU is not picketing our entrances or striking pickets all around Library Square.  If BCGEU decides to up their job action, CUPE 391 members will have to consider themselves picketed out and leave the building.  This is not the situation at present.  We will keep you posted through tweets and the President’s blog at www.cupe391.ca.

Please join members of the Executive during your coffee and lunch breaks in showing support for BCGEU.  The sell of the BC Liquor Distribution branch affects us all.  This publicly-owned utility brings in a great deal of money to support infrastructure throughout British Columbia.  Once it is sold to private interests, it is gone for good.  BC’s future without this important resource shines less brightly.  It is a beautiful day in Vancouver; come out and support public service.
