Your CUPE 391 Occupational Health and Safety Committee members would like to remind you that the Day of Mourning is April 28th, but will be recognized with an event on Friday, April 26th.
Worksafe BC, the BC Federation of Labour, and Business Council of BC have coordinated a formal memorial service to take place at the Jack Poole Plaza on Friday, April 26th at 10.30 am.
Last year in BC, 149 workers lost their lives as a result of on-the-job incidents and occupational diseases, while many more were permanently disabled. Your CUPE 391 OH&S Committee members wish to reaffirm our commitment to a safe and healthy workplace. We will continue to work with the employer reps on the joint committee to ensure this is the case.
Please attend the event on April 26th if you can, or where possible observe a moment of silence at 11.00 am in your workplace to remember those who have died, been sick, or injured because of their work.

Dear Brothers & Sisters,
The DOM (Day of Mourning) is fast approaching.
I have attached a schedule from the BCFED with communities across the Province where they have identified that ceremonies will be taking place either on April 26th or the 28th. Up to the last Friday, you can check the BCFED’s website for updates on communities near you that are not currently listed.
For those of you that have requested information for your locals on the DOM – there is a nice History Sheet prepared.
Our OH&S department has DOM bookmarks and posters available, which can be ordered through me.
In solidarity,
Heather
