Dear members,
As you know, library systems across BC have been facing varying levels of challenges around re-opening. Budget constraints have and continue to play what we see as a disproportionate factor in the recovery plans. VPL has moved forward significantly from projections even a month ago but it is important that we keep pressure on. Sechelt and Gibsons have been in a better situation with no layoffs but have historical issues around funding.
The closures have highlighted even more glaringly the problems with the current funding model that libraries have been facing for a decade and more.
CUPE BC yesterday launched the Better Libraries campaign. Clicking on this link will take individuals to a landing page with a letter that can be sent to the applicable municipality, council, or other funding body dependent on the postal code entered. Please share as appropriate.
