Your bargaining committee has resumed bargaining with the employer. We had three days of bargaining on February 23rd, 27th & 28th.
We will continue to bargain on March 13th, the first of two dates scheduled this month. Subsequent dates have been set for April and May.
Zoe Magnus our National Representative who has provided enormous support in the last two years and thus far in bargaining is to commence a new project with CUPE as an Organizer. This means that we’ll be getting a new National Representative.
Sung Wong is that new Rep and joined us in bargaining on the above dates. Zoe will be leading organizing drives to help workers who don’t have a union get a union. CUPE 391 wishes Zoe every success with this important and vital job to give workers the opportunity to impact their own working lives by becoming union members.
And we welcome Sung on board! Sung was previously working as a National Rep for CUPE 15, the Local representing City of Vancouver inside workers.
Laurin Shadforth attended our caucus meeting on February 21st, her last bargaining activity prior to her retirement a few days later. Congrats Laurin. Anne Dodington has now commenced bargaining committee duties replacing Laurin.
As ever we appreciate any questions you may have and these can be sent to askbargaining@cupe391.ca
The Local will hold a General Membership meeting on March 16th in the Morris J Wosk boardroom on Level 7 at the Central Branch starting 6pm.
In solidarity, your bargaining committee, Brian Peaslee (chair), Aliza Nevarie, Jane Curry, Anne Dodington, Ed Dickson, Gary Jarvis and National Representatives Zoe Magnus (lead spokesperson) and Sung Wong.
