City of Vancouver – Brief Budget Update

This summer when friends and family made their annual trek to vacation with us in Vancouver and White Rock, I changed their usual itinerary.  We visited our great city and enjoyed local architecture and public edifices, which of course included the centre of every community, its libraries.

My relatives always compliment on the wonderful and personal service we receive.  I explain to them that library workers choose our professions because of love collections and public service.  We impart more value for the dollar through our service and deliver the sum of those services straight to the public, where it belongs.

Very Preliminary Operating Budget

This year we will again have to fight for the right to give the public its due.  Randy Gatley and I attended a meeting on October 12th with the City Manager, Penny Ballem; Teresa Hartman, VSR; and David Shepherdson, Labour Relations consultant.  The struggle may not be so grim this year as I understand City revenues are up 23%…
