CONCERNING THE MARCH 31ST, 2007 DEADLINE FOR PURCHASE OF SERVICE

If you were a PT and or Auxiliary worker anytime between 1993 and 2004 you may have been eligible for enrolment in   the Municipal Pension Plan.

If it is determined that you are eligible, then that period of time during which you should have been enrolled is considered an arrears period.  This is very different from a period of Non-Contributory Service.  The latter refers to a period of time, such as maternity leave or leave without pay, as well as any probationary period during which contributions to the plan were not made for an employee already enrolled in the plan.

IMPORTANT:  the deadline of March 31st, 2007 is applicable only to purchases of Non-Contributory Service (see above).  PT and Auxiliary workers affected at the library do not fall into this category!  These employees, if they chose to purchase retroactive service, would be given their own deadline, which is 5 years from the date the Plan confirms with the individual that they have been enrolled in the plan.

Any deadline is determined by the Plan, not the City.  Only the Plan can determine and inform an employee of any deadline to purchase service.

If you are a PT-Auxiliary worker who chose to be enrolled retroactively into the plan and have received confirmation of enrolment from the Plan, then the deadline to purchase your portion of the plan is 5 years from the date your confirmation was sent.  For example, If the date on your confirmation is Nov. 15th, 2005, then your deadline to apply to purchase your share of the Plan is Nov. 15th, 2010.

If an eligible PT-Auxiliary employee chooses to be enrolled into the Plan retroactively, the City is legally obligated to pay the employer portion regardless of whether the employee chooses to pay their own share.

Any PT-Auxiliary employee who has enrolled in the Plan retroactively and has received confirmation from the Plan, please call 1-800-668-6335 to confirm your purchase deadline and that the service you would be purchasing is for an arrears period of service.

Any PT-Auxiliary employee who chose not to enroll in the plan or to enroll but not retroactively, there will be an opportunity to do so in the future.

Any questions please call the # above or visit the Plan website at http://mpp.pensionsbc.ca.
