Share the Road Challenge

BTWW-May-Jun-2010Spring Bike to Work Week 2010 is fast approaching and there are lots of exciting things happening…

1. Share the Road Challenge, Wednesday, May 26th
This year we have a team participating in the challenge! Three VPL members are each going to commute to work by different modes (a bike, a bus and a car) to see who arrives at Library Square first. Media will there to capture the happy looks on the faces of the cyclists as they roll in. Be in the South Plaza by 8:15 am to greet all the commuters as they arrive and find out how their travel times and enjoyment levels compare. Last year seven out of nine cyclists beat their car driving counterparts from all over the region. Join us for free refreshments and a great crowd. (Here’s a little bit of last year’s media coverage)2. Bike to Work Week (BTWW), May 31- June 6th
If you are planning to cycle to work that week, please remember to join the VPL All Staff team. Even if you cycle to work just one day that week (May 31st to June 6th), make sure you log your commutes and you could win prizes including a bike-a-day giveaway!

Login or register here.

Any questions? Send an email or phone a committee member or bike buddy – contact information available in the Pedal Pushers wiki  (internal VPL access only)

3. During BTWW visit the Commuter Stations
Volunteers will be waiting with snacks, cycling info, drinks, prizes, and smiles! You can win fabulous daily prizes just for stopping by. If you work downtown, make sure you come to the Wednesday morning (June 2nd) commuter station at the CBC Plaza to schmooze with our public broadcasting neighbours. Check here to find a station on your route to or from work.

4. Wrap-up BBQ, Friday June 4th, 4:30pm – 7:00pm at Creekside Park

1455 Quebec Street (@ Terminal Avenue, just north of Science World)

Celebrate transportation cycling at this fun, free outdoor BBQ. Entertainment, great company, cycling resources, free bike maintenance, and the grand opening of the Bike Tree. Sponsored by the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition.

5. Velopalooza, June 4th – 13th
The end of Bike to Work Week marks the beginning of 10 more days of bikey fun in Vancouver. Have a look at their exciting list of events.
